Why was my transfer returned by the receiving bank and what can I do?
Last updated: June 18, 2026
A returned transfer can happen for a few reasons:
Double-check the transfer details. Make sure everything was entered correctly: recipient name, account number, address, and bank details. Even a small mismatch can cause the receiving bank to reject the funds.
Try sending it as a named transfer. Some receiving banks return funds sent via unnamed transfers, because the sender shows as your bank provider's name rather than yours.
In that case, we'd recommend re-sending as a Wire transfer, which displays your company's name as the sender. Receiving banks are far more comfortable accepting these.
Still stuck? Contact the receiving bank directly to ask why the transfer was rejected — they can give you the specific reason, which makes it much easier to fix and re-send successfully.
